Here it comes … it’s almost here … Graduation!

StartWithYourselfGraduation.  The end of a phase of your life that’s lasted at least 12 years.  The beginning of the next phase.  In many ways, the beginning of your life as an adult.

So, do you know what you’re going to do?  There are lots of options: college, technical school, work, travel.

Your parents have told you what they think.  So have your teachers,  counselors, and friends.  You should listen to them — but you should also do a lot of thinking about it for yourself.

So how do you know what you should do?

Start by realizing that you are complex and unique.  What works for someone else might not work for you.  You need to consider all aspects of yourself and look for options that will fit you.

Mother and Daughter Speak OutFor example, are you energized or drained by spending time on your own?  Do you thrive on fast-paced, near-chaos conditions, or do you enjoy implementing a plan and watching it develop over time?  Are you motivated by having something tangible to show for your work, or are you excited by abstractions like ideas, relationships, and feelings?  Would you rather work on a group project or on a project that is yours alone?

There are actually eight different factors that you should consider whenever you make college or career decisions.  It’s called the Whole Person Approach, and it’s the path to building a career that will fit you.

Take a look at how the Whole Person Approach works, to see if there are aspects of yourself that you haven’t thought about, yet.  What else do you need to consider?  Are you confident that you’ve made the best decisions for you?  Go over it with your parents and others whose opinions you value.  Then, if you’re still not sure what to do, contact us and we’ll talk about what we can do to help.
